Position Overview
A Sauvie Island School teacher understands and promotes the school’s Place-Based mission, vision, objectives, and policies both within and outside the immediate school community. This position provides Art instruction and activities for grades K-8. They will be responsible for developing in each student an interest in and the ability for creative expression in visual terms, using skills and techniques of artistic expression consistent with a Place-based approach and CCSS; to develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations; to discover and develop talents of students in the field of art. This teacher will also be responsible for classroom management, grading, parent communication, and organizing and executing an existing art program. In addition, they will provide a digital photography/yearbook opportunity for upper-grade students. We use a Growth Mindset approach to learning and teaching. Essential Job Functions:

Responsible for ensuring that classroom and curriculum meet SIS philosophy, Oregon State Standards, and Common Core State Standards.
Adheres to Ethical Educator & Professional Practices as set forth by Teacher Standards & Practices Commission (TSPC). http://www.tspc.state.or.us/pub.asp?id=6
Develops developmentally appropriate daily lessons rooted in a sense of place.
Provides instruction, organization, and management in the classroom that creates a respectful environment conducive to learning, supported by PBiS principles.
Responsible for creating and maintaining a healthy and safe environment within the classroom and the school.
Adheres to all school systems, protocols and policies.
Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality when dealing with student information.
Contributes to the educational community by being respectful, cooperative, and reliable.
Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of and experience with:

Place-Based philosophy
Backward Design approach
Differentiated Instruction
Formative Assessment
CTE/Technology Skills- iPad, Projector, Vinyl Cutter, Heat Press
Current Oregon Teaching License (or ability to Qualify for the Charter School Registry)
A Bachelor’s Degree. (Preferred)

Contracted Position:

*This is a contracted position with the Sauvie Island School Parent Teacher Club. It will be paid at a fixed amount for 10 months for services rendered during the contract school year beginning in August and ending in June, based on an invoice received from you prior to the third Thursday of each month. The number of hours per day for Art Classes will be 12.0 hours per week divided over two or three days each week.

Supplies & Equipment: Art Supplies and Equipment will be purchased and provided through the general fund at the director’s discretion and approval.

Taxes and Benefits: You will be responsible for all withholding, accruing and paying all income, social security and other taxes as required by law. You will be responsible for all statutory insurance, including workers compensation and unemployment insurance as may be required by law. In no event are you considered to be an employee of Sauvie Island School.
