POSITION DESCRIPTION
Willamina School District is currently seeking a candidate as a Certified School Counselor at Willamina Middle/High School to start 08/01/2025.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The School Counselor’s role is to assist students in reaching their full potential for intellectual, physical, emotional, social, and psychological development and growth, and to assist in maintaining a safe and secure school environment. Specific responsibility to coordinate all pupil personnel services for all students. Focus on family engagement, post secondary college/career planning, community outreach for career related learning as well as developing apprenticeship and internship opportunities for students.
POSITION EXPECTATIONS
Provides direct services through the Guidance Curriculum, Individual Student Planning and Preventive and Responsive Services.
Provides program management, system support and accountability.
Establishes the school counseling program and develops activities and resources to implement and evaluate the program.
Involves school staff in making decisions about the student's needs in post secondary options.
Provides individual and group counseling services to meet the developmental, preventive and remedial needs of students.
Consults with students, parents, teachers and other school and community personnel to assist in meeting the needs of students.
Assists teachers and academic counselor with the Guidance Curriculum.
Accurately interprets test results and other student data; Review student records as needed and protects their confidentiality.
Assists teachers with the educational placement of students by using appropriate educational assessment strategies.
Collaborate with specialists in providing specific, targeted, skills training to increase student’s school readiness.
Adheres to ethical standards of the counseling profession and abides by the laws, policies and procedures that govern schools.
Participates in professional associations and upgrades professional knowledge of skills when needed.
Provide social and emotional skill/ strategy training, and coaching for team members.
Understand Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) and Trauma Informed Learning. Supports team members in increasing knowledge and understanding of ACE and Trauma Informed Learning in order to increase support for students.
Member of the Student Support/Care Team.
Be an active participant in the implementation of the District’s K-12 Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling Program.
Demonstrate a growth mindset and support team members in increasing knowledge and understanding to increase support for students.
Works collaboratively with the academic counselor and staff to develop individual plans for student success in post secondary options including career pathways, trades and the work force.
Will work collaboratively on developing a college/career center to sevice all students.
Comply with applicable District, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires the candidate to hold, or be eligible to hold, an Oregon School Counselor License.
SKILLS, COMPETENCIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Demonstrated experience working with children with Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) in a counseling environment preferred.
Demonstrate ability to relate positively and work collaboratively with students, teachers, administrators, employers, parents, and the community to achieve best outcomes.
Demonstrate a high level of skill, working with both students and adults and at problem solving and de-escalating conflict.
