Job Title:  Autism Specialist - (Temporary for 2024-25 School Year)

Salary Range:  Licensed Salary Schedule

Reports to:  Director of Student Services

Please note that this position is 192 days with 5 paid holidays, paid sick leave and paid flexible personal leave (3 days per year).  If hired after the start of the school year, days and leave are pro-rated.  The McMinnville School District provides generous personal and family benefits including medical, dental and vision coverage.

Essential Job Functions:

Schedules time to provide consultation and/or specially designed instruction in the area of social skill development, and/or behavioral skill development as defined by Individualized Education Plans.

Plans, develops, and follows schedule based upon service delivery model requirements as defined by Individualized Education Plans.

Works cooperatively with colleagues and directs licensed or classified as appropriate when implementing behavior plans. 

Designs appropriate supportive behavioral and/or social skill develop services models.

Designs and implements data tracking sheets, visual schedules, etc. for students identified with Autism Spectrum Disorders

Conducts systematic probes of functional communication, social skills and/or behavioral skills to determine levels of mastery; and maintains continuous tracking systems to measure student outcomes.

Assist in the evaluation, using appropriate and approved assessment tools, and eligibility process of determining eligibility in the area of Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Attends Individualized Education Plan meetings for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders providing input and consultation to effectively implement the education plan. 

Provides constructive, timely feedback to students, parents and colleagues to enhance learning.

Uses evaluation information, observation, behavioral data to develop appropriate goals and objectives for Individualized Education Plans.

Assists school teams in completing the following behavioral support processes: functional behavior assessments and behavior improvement plans.

 Engages in peer review and collaborative planning with the district behavioral services department team.

Maintains an understanding of resources available in the community to support students with Autism Spectrum Disorders. 

Maintains required paperwork completing these documents within legal time requirements. 

Communicates clearly and effectively in a variety of situations, including difficult ones, with parents, school district staff, community and/or state agencies members, and the public.

Responsible for being familiar with the school/district policies and procedures which govern the work.

Prompt and regular attendance is required.

Other Job Functions:

Valid Oregon Teaching License with Special Education endorsement and endorsement of Autism Spectrum Disorder or equivalent 4-10 years of experience of work with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Thorough understanding of philosophy and methods relevant to delivery of evidenced-based instruction to children identified with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and parents.

Experience in assessment of and service delivery to students with Individualized Education Plans in the area of Autism Spectrum Disorder and IDEA regulations.

Demonstrated creativity and resourcefulness in the areas of curriculum and behavioral modification for special needs students.

Willingness to work with district personnel in the development of district-wide supported education projects.

Experience and willingness to work with students identified with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Knowledge of IDEA, behavioral management, functional behavioral analysis, and behavior support plans.

Ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with students, staff, and parents.

Performs other tasks as assigned.

Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

Participates in various meetings and professional development activities for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving one's skills/knowledge.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to walk; sit; and use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and peripheral vision.                                        

Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens.  The noise level in the work environment varies but is usually moderate.

Terms of Employment: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with Board policy on evaluation of licensed staff.
