Job Title: Special Education Teacher
Salary Range: Licensed Salary Schedule
Reports to: Principal or designee
Please note that this position is 192 days with 5 paid holidays, paid sick leave and paid flexible personal leave (3 days per year). If hired after the start of the school year, days and leave are pro-rated. Job Summary:
Develops student skills and comprehension of subject area; promotes the development of
character, leadership, cooperation and respect for others that will make the student a better
citizen. Creates a positive, safe and stimulating learning environment and promotes student
achievement.
Essential Job Functions:
Maintains the confidentiality of student communications and keeps records as required by law, policy and regulations.
Creates a positive, safe and stimulating learning environment and maintains control of the classroom, supervisor areas, and assemblages of students.
Plays key role in building pre-referral teams; participates in the identification and program planning needs for children with disabilities.
Works with school, ESD personnel, parents and outside agencies in developing IEP’s.
Provides special education for identified students via direct service delivery, team teaching, teacher consultation, materials adaptation, etc.
Provides training to education staff (teachers, specialists, assistants).
Participates in on-going professional development as it relates to special education.
Maintains records, reports and documentation as required by district policy and state law.
Responsible for being familiar with the school/district policies and procedures which govern the work.
Prompt and regular attendance is required.
Other Job Functions:
Performs other tasks as assigned.
Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
Participates in various meetings and professional development activities for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving one's skills/knowledge.
Essential Job Requirements - Qualifications:
Valid Oregon teaching license with Special Education endorsement.
Experience working with special needs students with a variety of abilities and challenges.
Excellent classroom management and behavior support skills.
Knowledge of IDEA and behavior management.
Ability to coordinate with existing special services staff.
Ability to establish healthy working relationships with students, staff, and parents.
Bilingual Spanish is desirable.
Ability to work cooperatively and harmoniously as a team member.
Ability to plan, organize, and work without close supervision.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with District personnel and the public.
Maintains confidential information and the privacy of District staff, students, and families.
Carries out work responsibilities effectively under pressure of deadlines, interruptions, and new or emergency situations.
Ability to work with a diverse population.
Ability to respect confidential information.
Computer skills to include use of word processing programs, database programs and the Google Suite of products.
Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; sit; and use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and peripheral vision.
Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens. The noise level in the work environment varies but is usually moderate.
Terms of Employment: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with Board policy on evaluation of licensed staff.
