Oregon’s Adolescent Literacy Framework: The Role of Literacy in Adolescent Lives
In this pre-conference session, designed specifically for leaders and district/school-based teams interested in growing their collective understanding of Oregon’s Adolescent Literacy Framework. Presenters will facilitate an interactive overview of Oregon’s Adolescent Literacy Framework with an emphasis on research and evidence-based practices supporting adolescent literacy development, rooted in culturally responsive educational practices for all students. The Oregon Adolescent Literacy Framework envisions a future where all students leave secondary education as proficient readers and writers. The framework is intended to build momentum and capacity for strengthening literacy instruction across disciplines, ensuring that every adolescent in Oregon can harness their linguistic knowledge to achieve academic success. Participants will engage in discussion and reflection about how current research supporting adolescent literacy and the guiding principles articulated in the framework can build on current practices and systems to design instruction that ensures a strong literacy trajectory for every reader and writer.
Presenters:
- Linda Friedrich, Director of Literacy, WestEd
