GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The K-8 Music Teacher will be responsible for developing and delivering a comprehensive music education program that fosters a love of music and enhances the musical skills and knowledge of students from kindergarten through 8th grade. The successful candidate will create a positive and engaging learning environment, utilize various teaching methods to reach all learners, and comply with Oregon teaching standards and certification requirements. This role requires collaboration with colleagues, parents, and the community to support the overall educational goals of the district.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Performs some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
- Meets the standards of Competent and Ethical Performance as outlined in Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR 584-020-000 to 584-020-045).
- Develop and implement a dynamic music curriculum aligned with Oregon state standards for music education.
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging music lessons that cater to a range of abilities and grade levels.
- Teach general music classes, and potentially instrumental music (depending on school resources and student interest).
- Assess and evaluate student performance and progress, providing regular feedback and maintaining accurate records.
- Maintain and update current Grade Book and online ParentVue.
- Organize and direct school concerts, performances, and other musical events.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports the social and emotional well-being of all students.
- Integrate technology and innovative teaching methods to enhance the music learning experience.
- Collaborate with other teachers and staff to develop interdisciplinary projects and school-wide initiatives.
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress and school events.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in music education.
- Ensure compliance with all school district policies and procedures.
-Attend and participate in building staff meetings, IEP meetings, PLT’s and district in-service meetings.
-Annually pass the District’s required online training by the District’s assigned due date.
-Follow District protocol for reporting absences.
-Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or a related field.
- Valid Oregon Teaching License with an endorsement in Music.
- Demonstrated knowledge of music theory, history, and pedagogy.
- Previous teaching experience, preferably in a K-8 setting preferred.
- Strong classroom management skills and the ability to inspire and motivate students.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with musical instruments and various music-related technologies.
- Commitment to continuous professional growth and development.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and work year to be according to the current negotiated contract.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of Board policy.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: - Ability to conduct classroom activities and lead rehearsals, including standing for extended periods.
- Capability to lift and move musical instruments and equipment, up to 25 pounds.
- Sufficient visual and auditory acuity to assess student performance and conduct classes effectively.
- Ability to travel to various locations within the school district for performances and events as required.
