General description of the position: To assist the cooks in all areas of kitchen operations and
to insure the quality and efficient preparation and serving of meals. Serving, sanitation, and
cleaning will be a primary focus.
1. Possesses considerable knowledge of materials and methods used in preparing food in
large quantities.
2. Knowledge of monthly menu planning, ingredient requirements, and recipes for
nutritionally balanced meals.
3. Works cooperatively with the district Food Service Coordinator for purchasing, receiving,
and inventory control procedures of food and kitchen supplies related to cafeteria
operations.
4. Ability to operate a variety of commercial food production equipment.
5. Possess the ability to manage other kitchen staff members and student workers.
6. Knowledgeable of nutritional requirements.
7. Ability to record and maintain school lunch accounting, costing, and menu production
records.
8. Knowledgeable of sanitation requirements.
9. Knowledgeable of standard safety practices and kitchen operations.
10. Knowledgeable of State and Federal school lunch requirements.
11. Ability to work cooperatively with district personnel, parents, and students.
12. Ability to perform physical requirements of the job including but not limited to the moving
and handling of frozen foods and other kitchen supplies, standing for long periods of
time, lifting and serving in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
13. A minimum of three years (3) of experience in cafeteria style food service is preferred.
14. At least eighteen years of age.
15. Fingerprinting and criminal history check as required by OAR 581-22-716.
16. Experience incorporating the perspectives of multiple communities, including
[communities of color], in the consideration of impacts and outcomes of a decisionmaking process.
