Assessment Doesn’t Have to Feel Like a Four-letter Word
In this session, “Assessment doesn’t have to feel like a four-letter word,” Dr. Beard will guide participants through learning about responsive teaching and learning. Participants will leave with a greater understanding of how to support the success, well-being, and self-efficacy of both students and fellow educators.
When we use assessment as an integrated part of responsive teaching and learning, it is no longer a frustrating event, irrelevant task, or disempowering hoop to jump through for students or educators. But what does “responsive” mean? In this session, we’ll dive into what we mean by responsive teaching and learning. You will leave with information, practices, and resources to ensure that assessment is empowering for both students and educators. Through examples, participants will see how responsive teaching and learning include ensuring that assessment is viewed and used as an integrated and empowering part of educational systems and practices. When the assessment is viewed and used this way, it no longer feels like a four-letter word.
