Southern Oregon Education Service District has a position opening for an Itinerant Teacher of the Deaf or Hard of Hearing.  This is an opportunity to join a passionate and professional group of Teachers of the Deaf or Hard of Hearing that serve all identified students, aged birth – 21, who live in the Southern Oregon area.  As an itinerant teacher, you have the opportunity to help design and provide educational support services to students living and learning in their home communities.  The current position is based in Jackson County.  Oregon certification as a Deaf or Hard of Hearing Teacher is required.  Our regional program currently employs 11 Teachers of the Deaf and supports over 30 Sign Language Interpreters.   This is a great opportunity to grow professionally and live in a beautiful part of the Pacific Northwest.

TEACHER OF THE DEAF/HARD OF HEARING

POSITION GOAL:    Provide specialized instruction to assigned Deaf/Hard of Hearing children.
 
Note: OAR 333-019-1030 Proof of COVID full vaccination status or approved OHA exception is required for this position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:                
Diagnose, prescribe, design and implement instruction for each child as determined by the IEP.
Diagnose, prescribe, design, and implement instruction for communication problems, including implementation of effective aural management and auditory training programs.
Utilize behavior management for instruction of appropriate personal and social behaviors.
Implement and/or organize language therapy based on the child’s needs.
Advise school personnel, parents and community members as to special need of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing child.
Organize, schedule and support inclusion of D/HH students in regular classroom and extra curricular activities as appropriate.
Schedule and supervise interpreters assigned to students on caseload.
Coordinate, participate, and/or lead referral, eligibility, IEP and placement meetings for assigned children.
Complete all reports, documentation and requests for information in the manner and timeline specified.
Establish and maintain positive, flexible, and cooperative relationships with ESD and local school district staff.
Participate in professional growth activities.
Comply with local district and ESD rules and policies.
Perform physical requirements unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.
Perform job related tasks as designated by coordinator/supervisor.

MINIMUMPREREQUISITES:      
Teaching experience and/or practicum involvement with normal hearing students.
Teaching experience and/or practicum involvement with Deaf/Hard of Hearing students.
Oregon license as Teacher of Hearing Impaired.
Demonstrate sign language communication skills.

LENGTH OF POSITION:   190 days School Year 
 
SALARY RANGE:   $60,339 to $94,759 (this includes an annual stipend of $6500)

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:   Program Administrator
