Canby School District is hiring multiple full-time SLPA's for the 2022-23 school year, starting on August 30, 2022. The positions are 6.5 hours per day, 182 day work year. In addition to salary and benefits, the district pays the employee's 6% PERS contribution.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION:
The Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) performs a variety of duties under the direction of the Speech Language Pathologist (SLP). The emphasis is on providing services to students with speech and language needs as determined appropriate by the SLP and within the scope of the license for an SLPA.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Conduct speech and language screenings without interpretation, utilizing screening protocols specified by the supervising SLP.
2. Provide direct treatment assistance to students identified by the supervising SLP by following written treatment plans or protocols developed by the supervising SLP, excluding swallowing.
3. Document student progress, without interpretation of findings, toward meeting established objectives as stated in the treatment plan, and report this information to the supervising SLP.
4. Assist the SLP with informal documentation during an intervention session (collecting therapy data as directed by the SLP), prepare materials, and assist with other clerical duties as specified by the SLP.
5. Assist the SLP in collecting therapy data for assessment purposes, without interpretation.
6. Schedule activities and prepare charts, records, graphs, or other displays of data.
7. Perform checks and maintenance of equipment.
8. Sign and initial treatment notes for review and co-signature by the supervising SLP.
9. Provide instructional support to students as directed by the SLP.
10. Identify and describe clinically relevant student behaviors to the supervising SLP.
11. Use cues and prompts with the student as defined in the treatment protocol prescribed by the SLP.
12. Provide behavioral reinforcement consistent with the student’s developmental age, cultural preferences, and communication disorder as prescribed by the SLP.
13. Review and summarize student performance according to the protocol prescribed by the SLP at the end of each session.
14. Prepare age-appropriate and culturally sensitive treatment materials appropriate to the student’s developmental age and communication disorder as prescribed by the SLP.
15. Instruct small student groups and provide one-on-one tutoring of students as directed by SLP.
16. Plan and consult with a team of teachers and administrators.
17. Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
18. May assist in health-related procedures i.e. medication, hygiene, toileting, etc.
19. Other related duties as requested by the supervisor.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Hold valid Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) license.
Have or be able to obtain a valid first aid card.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bilingual in Spanish.
Experience working in a K-12 school environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Ability to follow district policies and procedures.
2. Ability to make some independent judgments within prescribed policies and procedures and perform essential functions with a minimum amount of supervision.
3. Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships and work in collaboration with supervisors, other staff, students, and general public.
4. Knowledge of assistive technology.
5. Knowledge of office practices and procedures, along with basic word processing skills.
6. Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.

All district employees will be required to provide proof of vaccination, or documentation of a medical or non-medical exception using the Oregon Health Authorities form.
