STANFIELD, Ore. – The Oregon Small Schools Association is proud to announce that Beth Burton has been named its 2022 Administrator of the Year. Burton is the superintendent of Stanfield School District in Umatilla County.

When Burton took over the helm at Stanfield, the district was struggling with academics and facility issues. Under Burton’s leadership, facilities have been updated and tremendous improvements made with student achievement and growth. “Beth Burton is a dedicated educator and informative leader,” says Michael Carter, OSSA executive director. “I have been impressed by the work Beth has been involved with introducing and implementing strategies.”

In the last three years, Burton has prioritized investment in early learning and now offers Kindergarten Readiness programs for students ages 3 and 4. Under her leadership, the district has seen an increase in  enrollment, and provided 1:1 technology for the first time. The district has also completed its strategic plan with a community steering committee and is now able to focus on its primary mission to “Educate. Empower. Inspire.”

Burton will receive her OSSA 2021 Administrator of the Year award on June 24 at COSA’s 2022 Summer Conference in Seaside.  

OSSA recognizes one school administrator each year who excels in their leadership position. Criteria include integrity, leadership, commitment to community, scholarship and student achievement.
