Kourtney Ferrua, Wascher Elementary School Principal, has been named the 2019 Oregon Elementary Principal of the Year by the Oregon Elementary Principals Association (OESPA) and the Coalition of Oregon School Administrators (COSA).

North Eugene High School Principal Iton Udosenata has been elected as COSA President-Elect for 2019-20. COSA members voted via online ballot last month.  The COSA Board of Directors officially accepted the election results at their April 11 meeting.

Over 800 educators from across Oregon participated in the 2019 State English Learners Alliance Conference earlier in March, at the newly re-branded Hotel Eugene. 

The Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) took action last week to approve several changes in current licensure rules. These changes will be going into effect over the next three years. The new structure is expected to be fully implemented by 2022.

SALEM – Concordia University Chicago was recognized recently as a national leader in online programs, which include the administrator licensure and degree programs offered through COSA. U.S. News & World Report ranked the college on the lists for Best Online Graduate Education Programs, Best Online Bachelor’s Programs, and Best Online MBA Programs. The magazine’s rankings were released Jan. 15.

Oregon public middle and high schools with an unmet sports program need may apply for a 2018-19 California Casualty Thomas R. Brown Athletics Grant. Applications are now being taken; deadline for consideration is January 15, 2019.

Today, Governor Kate Brown released the Governor’s Recommended Budget (GRB) for the 2019-21 biennium.  By law, the budget must be balanced and includes spending and investment priorities from all major revenue sources such as the General Fund, Lottery Funds, Federal Funds and Other Funds (fees, assessments, earnings, marijuana taxes, etc.).

Thao Do-Gwilliam, Stoller Middle School Assistant Principal in Beaverton School District, has been named the 2019 Oregon Assistant Principal of the Year by the Oregon Association of Secondary School Administrators (OASSA) and the Coalition of Oregon School Administrators (COSA).

Tim Sweeney, Coquille School District Superintendent since 2010, has been named the 2019 Oregon Superintendent of the Year by the Oregon Association of School Executives (OASE) and the Coalition of Oregon School Administrators (COSA).

COSA is pleased to announce that Ben Bowman has joined its team as a Legislative Affairs Specialist. Bowman will team with Morgan Allen, COSA Deputy Executive Director of Policy and Advocacy, to represent Oregon’s school and district leaders in the Capitol.
