COSA-CUC Leadership Program enters third year, having served 120 leaders; fall session begins Aug. 25

The COSA-CUC Leadership Program -- which offers IAL, CAL and Doctoral Programs -- is beginning its third year, having successfully served more than 120 administrators and teacher leaders from more than 100 districts.  The fall session begins August 25.  To learn more, email Trina@cosa.k12.or.us.

Several members of the program's just-completed, first IAL cohort, have been already been hired as administrators for 2014-15.  We asked a few of them to comment on their experiences and how the program helped prepare them for their new roles.

“The classes offered through the program helped me prepare for the issues and rigors of being a school administrator. The law and community/parent relations class will be a big help for me in my new role as a Dean of Students. The small cohort and discussion forums were wonderful for examining what other candidates were seeing in their districts and determining best practices for nearly every situation. I feel like I have a nice group of colleagues and friends that I can call at any time for advice.”
- Gary Roberts, Dean of Students

“The Concordia/COSA IAL program offers the convenience of on-line courses and the opportunity to build face-to-face relationships within the educational leadership community.  It offers the best to both worlds if you’re interested in administrative leadership program.  Through COSA, my cohort had multiple opportunities to collaborate and connect with veteran administrators, building relationships and establishing resources. My internship supervisor was skillful, experienced, and, most importantly, caring.  I believe her advice and recommendations were instrumental in helping me acquire a position as an elementary school principal.”
- Kim Scrima, Principal

“This has been an incredible two years.  Several people in my cohort have expressed that they have never worked harder in their lives . . . We were asked early on to take on data-driven, school improvement initiatives.  It is this sort of training that is needed if our next school leaders are to build the capacity necessary to transform Oregon’s most struggling schools into high functioning, high performing communities of learning.”
- Emily Chadwick, recent IAL Graduate
