The Special Education Teacher will work with school personnel in designing, implementing, and adapting instructional programs for the special educational needs of identified students. This position requires diligence with paperwork completion that includes the referral process, eligibility forms, and all IEP documents. Qualified candidates will possess all necessary licenses to teach special education in the state of Oregon. This position is under the direct supervision of the building principal with programmatic guidance from the Student Services Office.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
Maintains a cooperative relationship with fellow staff members, students, and the general public.
Completes all IEP paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
Maintains appropriate Special Education records on students.
Adheres to district, state, and federal laws, policies, procedures, and regulations.
Works cooperatively with Student Services personnel to provide the most appropriate program for students who require specially designed instruction.
Builds trust and confidence with students.
Collaborates with general education staff to align instruction as much as possible with general education curriculum.
Assesses student needs and provides appropriate learning activities for eligible students.
Tracks short-term and long-term evaluation of pupil progress.
Supervises assistants, tutors, and volunteers.
Refers students who need specialized help, such as OT, PT, and ASD, to appropriate personnel.
Works with staff to modify curriculum as needed.
Maintains contact with parents of students.
Evaluates student progress based on data from performance on goals.
Prepares progress reports each grading period.
Attends meetings as required.
