We are collecting applications for teaching positions at the Oregon School for the Deaf. This recruitment is open until filled. The ideal teacher candidates provide language-rich environments and prepare themselves as the bilingual models of separate, distinct languages in English and ASL. They are committed to our campus-wide initiative that all students are supported as readers and writers in every setting. They reflect on their teaching effectiveness on an ongoing basis and they work collaboratively with every colleague to promote OSD as a valued and successful school program. These positions prepare deaf and hard-of-hearing students for college or the world of work by providing services and instruction that allow students to develop their skills to the best of their ability. The successful candidates may teach a range of curriculum levels depending on the needs of the assigned students each year.
What you will do!
Plan and prepare for learning using evidence-based instructional strategies including Reciprocal Teaching
Manage the classroom, including evaluating students
Develop and track IEP's and align instruction with IEP objectives
Communicate with parents and staff.
Submit report cards and give parents feedback on their children's progress.
Participate in ASL/English Bilingual Professional Development.
What are we looking for?
An Oregon Teaching License/Certificate to teach deaf/hard-of-hearing students or the ability to obtain appropriate Oregon Teaching Licensure/Certification by time you begin work. ASLPI Level 3 certification within 12 weeks of beginning work.
Teachers at OSD must possess an ASLPI Level 3 in order to make OSD a communication-accessible environment. The agency requires all teachers to provide certification they are ASLPI Level3 proficient. You must provide the certification to the agency within twelve (12) weeks of beginning work, and you are responsible for paying this initial testing cost.
