South Umpqua High School is seeking a dynamic, student-centered educational leader to join our team as Assistant Principal. We are looking for a candidate who is committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and academically rich environment where every student can thrive.
Qualifications and Attributes:
• Experience with and understanding of High School students and staff
• High school teaching experience preferred.
• Strong communication skills with students, families, faculty, and community members.
• Highly visible and actively involved in the school and greater community.
• Deep understanding of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), building staff capacity, instructional improvement, classroom management, and technology integration.
• Demonstrates genuine care for the success and well-being of every student.
• Exercises exceptional judgment and discretion in decision-making.
• Proven ability to analyze complex issues and apply strong problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities Include:
• Supporting the principal in leading school operations, instructional programs, and staff development.
• Building strong relationships with students, staff, and families to foster a positive school culture.
• Assisting with staff evaluations, mentoring, and professional growth initiatives.
• Maintaining a visible and approachable presence on campus and at school events.
• Promoting a collaborative environment focused on continuous improvement and student achievement.
• Ensuring the consistent application of school policies related to behavior, safety, and academic expectations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• A current Oregon Administrative License or eligibility to obtain one
• At least one year in school administration or qualified through an administrative internship program
• Successful teaching and/or leadership experience at the high school level
