Bethel School District is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Director of Technology.

Position Summary
The Director of Technology provides strategic leadership, technical expertise, and collaborative vision to ensure the seamless integration of technology in teaching, learning, and operational systems across the district. This role involves managing the district’s technology infrastructure, supporting digital equity, and building capacity among staff to implement and sustain innovative solutions.
As the leader of the Technology Department, the Director ensures that all Bethel constituents—including students, staff, families, and the broader community—can access high-quality, reliable, and equitable technological tools and services. A critical aspect of this role is the ability to communicate complex technical information effectively to non-technical audiences, fostering understanding and collaboration district-wide.

Essential Responsibilities
1. Vision and Leadership
• Develop and implement long- and short-term strategic plans for technology that align with district goals, emphasizing equitable access, student learning, and end-user experiences.
• Inspire and lead the Technology Department in delivering responsive, customer-focused services.
• Monitor emerging technologies and assess their relevance and benefit for K-12 education.
• Collaborate with the Bethel community—including families, educators, and community partners—to advance the district’s mission.
2. Technology Infrastructure and Operations
• Oversee secure and scalable district-wide network systems, including hardware, software, and cloud-based platforms.
• Lead system upgrades, backups, disaster recovery planning, and data security initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, including CIPA, COPPA, FERPA, and cybersecurity standards.
• Manage district systems, including:
o Student Information Systems (e.g., PowerSchool)
o Data warehouses
o Finance and HR platforms
o Communication and web systems
3. Instructional Technology Integration
• Partner with instructional leaders to align technology with educational outcomes, fostering personalized and equitable learning opportunities.
• Design and support professional development for educators, enhancing their ability to use technology effectively in the classroom.
• Evaluate and implement online curricula, virtual learning platforms, and assessment tools.
4. Team and Project Management
• Supervise, mentor, and evaluate Technology Department staff, cultivating a collaborative and solutions-oriented team culture.
• Develop and manage short- and long-term projects, ensuring timely delivery and budget compliance.
• Implement effective technology support systems, such as helpdesk solutions, to meet district needs efficiently.
5. Risk Management and Vendor Relations
• Safeguard district assets and data through robust risk management strategies.
• Establish and maintain strong vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, and oversee procurement processes.

Qualifications
Required
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Educational Technology, or related field; equivalent certifications and experience considered.
• At least 5 years of progressive mailto:%20remie.calalang@bethel.k12.or.usleadership experience in technology systems management, preferably in education.
• Proven expertise in:
o Network design and administration.
o Windows, Mac, and Linux environments.
o Security, backup, and disaster recovery protocols.
• Exceptional skills in leadership, project management, and customer service.
Preferred
• Experience integrating technology to enhance instructional practices and student outcomes.
• Familiarity with instructional tools, online learning platforms, and assessment systems.
• Knowledge of virtualization platforms, filtering systems, and identity/access management.

Physical and Work Environment
Physical Demands
• Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, and operate standard office equipment.
• Ability to lift/move up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment
• Standard office setting with occasional off-site work.
• Noise levels typically low to moderate.

Technology and Instructional Technology Department Staff

Terms of Employment
Supervision: Reports to the Superintendent or designee
Calendar: 260-day, 12-month position
FLSA Status: Exempt, Supervisory
Salary: $100,558 - $123,822 (12-month contract), depending on education and experience
Accrued leave: Vacation, Personal, Emergency, and Sick
