Job Title: Behavior Specialist
Salary Range: Licensed Salary Schedule
Reports to: Director of Student Services
Please note that this position is 192 days with 5 paid holidays, paid sick leave and paid flexible personal leave (3 days per year). If hired after the start of the school year, days and leave are pro-rated. Job Summary: To develop student skills and comprehension of subject area; to promote the development of character, leadership, cooperation and respect for others that will make the student a better citizen.
Essential Job Functions:
Schedules time to provide specially designed instruction in the area of social skill development, and/or behavioral skill development as defined by Individualized Education Plans.
Plans, develops, and follows schedule based upon service delivery model requirements as defined by Individualized Education Plans.
Works cooperatively with colleagues and directs licensed or classified as appropriate when implementing behavior plans.
Plans, organizes, and schedules appropriate meetings needed to support the implementation of Behavior Improvement Plans.
Designs appropriate supportive behavioral and/or social skill development services models.
Designs data tracking sheets for students identified as having significant behavioral concerns.
Conducts systematic probes of social skills and/or behavioral skills to determine levels of mastery; and maintains continuous tracking systems to measure student outcomes.
Attends Individualized Education Plan meetings for students with behavioral support services.
Provides on-going behavioral support services to students in one-on-one and/or small group settings as defined by Individualized Education Plans.
Provides constructive, timely feedback to students, parents and colleagues to enhance learning.
Evaluates students to determine special education eligibility in the area of Emotional Disturbance and Other Health Impaired (ADHD).
Uses evaluation information, observation, behavioral data to develop appropriate goals and objectives for Individualized Education Plans.
Assists school teams in completing the following behavioral support processes: functional behavior assessments, behavior improvement plans, threat management and safety planning, attention deficit hyperactive (ADHD) screenings, and developing effective safety intervention programs.
Engages in peer review and collaborative planning with the school behavior care team and school district behavior care team.
With Administrative approval, participates as a member of the regional flight team, supporting students in other school districts during times of crisis.
Facilitates referral processes by consulting with mental health specialists and family support advocates.
Maintains an understanding of resources available in the community to support students with behavioral and/or social skill development needs and/or concerns.
Maintains required paperwork completing these documents within legal time requirements.
Communicates clearly and effectively in a variety of situations, including difficult ones, with parents, school district staff, community and/or state agencies members, and the public.
Perform other tasks as assigned.
Responsible for being familiar with the school/district policies and procedures which govern the work.
Prompt and regular attendance is required.

Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
Participates in various meetings and professional development activities for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving one's skills/knowledge.
Essential Job Requirements - Qualifications:
Master's degree with specific licensure in one of the following areas: Handicapped Learner, School Counselor, School
Psychologist, or Psychologist licensure by Teacher Standards and Practices Commission; or Licensed Professional
Counselor licensure by Oregon Board Licensed Professional Counselors; and/or Licensed Clinical Social Worker
licensure by Oregon State Board of Clinical Social Workers; with four-to-ten years related experience.
Experience working with students with social/emotional and mental health disorders.
Knowledge of IDEA, behavioral management, functional behavioral analysis, and behavior support plans.
Experience with conducting behavioral evaluations using standard assessments aligned with IDEA criteria.
Bilingual in Spanish is desirable.
Ability to work cooperatively and harmoniously as a team member.
Ability to plan, organize, and work without close supervision.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with District personnel and the public.
Maintain confidential information and the privacy of District staff, students, and families.
Carry out work responsibilities effectively under pressure of deadlines, interruptions, and new or emergency situations.
Ability to work with a diverse population.
Ability to respect confidential information.
Computer skills to include use of word processing programs, database programs and the Google Suite of products.

The employee is frequently required to walk; sit; and use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and peripheral vision.
Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens. The noise level in the work environment varies but is usually moderate.
Terms of Employment: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with Board policy on evaluation of licensed staff.
