About the program:
Clackamas ESD has been providing services for young children with special needs in Clackamas County for more than thirty years. The Clackamas Early Intervention and Early Childhood Special Education program continues to focus on working with families, local school districts, and other community programs to prepare young children with special needs to enter kindergarten ready to learn. Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education serves eligible children ages 0-5 years who experience delays or disabilities. Services are individualized according to the child's needs and may include home visiting; consultation to staff at community preschools, Head Start classrooms, or child care settings; specialized preschool; related services such as speech, motor, or other specialists; and parent education. Children may be referred by parents, community preschools, local school districts, physicians, or other community service providers.

About this position:
The Speech-Language Pathology Assistant will deliver communication services to students with disabilities in collaboration with the supervising Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP). Communication services may include direct instruction, consultation, and material development under the direction of the SLP.

Essential functions:
-Under the oversight of the SLP, provides individualized or small group communication services to students whose Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs) identify communication as a direct or consultative service to support the child's individual services
-Documents student progress, without interpretation of findings, toward meeting established goals and objectives as stated in students' IFSPs, and reports this information to the supervising SLP
-Consults with others on the child's IFSP team as needed and required by the SLP as related to the students' needs and progress 
-Provides input to the SLP for planning students' programs
-Determines and implements modifications and revisions to meet the ongoing needs of each student, consulting regularly with the SLP prior to making changes     
-Develops, produces, and prepares materials as requested by the SLP
-Participates in program improvement with the SLP team and other members of the child's IFSP team
-Performs administrative record keeping including documentation of services to be reviewed by the SLP
-Assists with clerical duties as assigned
-Manages students' behavior using teaching and behavioral procedures which conform to best practices and the individualized needs of each student
-Performs checks and maintenance of equipment
-Maintains confidentiality of information pertaining to students and their families
-Follows procedures, under the supervision of the SLP, for compliance with ESD, state and federal regulations for special education services
-Adheres to rules and procedures of the licensing agency for a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant license
-Support service delivery including: speech groups, consultation and direct services as directed by the SLP.

Minimum qualifications:
-Must be at least 18 years of age
-Speech-Language Pathology Assistant license as set forth by the State of Oregon Board of Examiners for Speech-Language and Audiology
-Recent successful experience and training working with children birth to five experiencing a disability on skills related to speech development
-Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team
-Demonstrated ability to develop and utilize complex scheduling and time management techniques in the daily implementation of therapy in a number of different settings throughout the community
-Demonstrated ability to work independently and use initiative to accomplish complex assignments with general instruction and guidance
-Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with program staff, local districts, and community partner agency personnel
-Ability to acquire and maintain a valid first aid card
-Written and oral communication skills sufficient to perform essential functions
-Physical and mental attributes sufficient to perform essential functions
-Ability to acquire and maintain training/certification required by program (e.g. CPR)
-Central Background Registry

Preferred qualifications:
-Bilingual. Bilingual candidates must pass a language proficiency assessment at intermediate high to advanced per CESD guidelines to be eligible for one pay range higher.

Salary: Range 20 and Range 21 for bilingual candidates. New hires are eligible to start at up to Step 4 depending on experience, per Classified Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Retirement plan contributions:
Clackamas ESD employees working 600 or more hours in a calendar year are eligible for the Oregon Public Employee Retirement, or PERS. There are two components to PERS, including the pension, which is primarily funded by CESD and The Individual Account Program, or IAP, which is funded by a six-percent deduction from your paycheck. If you are new to PERS, your PERS deduction will begin automatically after a six-month waiting period.
