School Improvement Specialist

The major function is to provide technical assistance and support to partner districts, assistance implementation of integrated programs and other federal and state initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Represent South Coast Region on selected committees and/or task forces
Serves as liaison with ODE, OAESD and other external agencies and works with SCESD Advisory Committees, local school district advisory committees, the Office of Community College, and Regional Work Force committee/steering committee.
 Assists in development/dissemination of curriculum related to projects.
Helps establish a forum for exchanging strategies, expanding resources, providing staff development, and facilitating delivery of services related to the projects to strengthen programs.
Helps coordinate substantial staff development, partnership, and student activities region-wide using distance conferencing technology and provides training in equipment use as appropriate.
 Assists in coordinating community involvement.
Assist in developing program goals, policies, and procedures.
Comply with South Coast ESD administrative rules and board policies.
Maintains confidentiality.
Conducts meetings for members of the Contract Consortium.
Meets standards for competent and ethical performance as outlined in OAR 584-020-035.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:  
Ability to speak with individuals and small groups in an articulate manner.
Ability to speak at meetings and before groups in an articulate manner using prepared materials and on a spontaneous basis.
Ability to provide dynamic training to diverse learners adjusting to different cultural environments.
Understanding of the education enterprise and the mission of ESDs in Oregon.
Demonstrated skills in critical thinking and problem solving.
Demonstrated ability to exercise judgment, integrity, confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy.
Demonstrated ability to organize time and resources to perform multiple tasks.
Demonstrated ability to work well with others and to provide effective leadership. 
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education.
Valid Oregon Teaching License or the ability to obtain. 
Working Conditions:
 
The employee works with Instructional Services team members under the general supervision of the Director and the Superintendent.  The employee’s schedule will be flexible to accommodate travel, evening meetings, and deadlines, although comp time is not awarded. The employee needs to be competent in conflict resolution. The employee must be able to communicate effectively in confrontational and emotional situations involving staff, students, parents and patrons. Confidentiality is a top priority for the persons in this position.
 
The employee at times works under varied workloads and inflexible deadlines. Problems may arise which require immediate attention setting up conflicting priorities. Sound judgment is required to effectively prioritize these demands.
 
The employee must be able to lift materials, boxes or equipment weighing up to 30 pounds. The employee may need to participate with others in lifting/moving equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. The employee needs to be able to participate with one other employee in lifting students weighing up to 120 pounds if the student’s protocol permits. All lifting and transferring of students should be done in accordance with approved protocols
