Long Term Substitute Teacher [8/19 - 12/20] - Middle School Science (Or Social Studies)

Position: Middle School Science (OR, Social Studies) Teacher for 6th-8th grade [Only need to teach one subject]
( 6th x 2 classes, 7th x 1 class , 8th x 1 class, about 75 students in total)
Schedule: 8:00am - 4:00pm (M-F) 8/19/2024-12/20/2024

Qualifications:
- Highly compassionate and energetic, with excellent skills to build rapport with children.
- Must have a Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited college / university, major in English language or its equivalent is preferred
- Licensed teacher (either from Oregon or other states of the U.S.) is preferred.
- Minimum 1-year experience as a teacher at intermediate grades preferred.
- Skilled with using technology in the classroom.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both orally and in writing.

Key Responsibilities:

Academic:
- Providing interactive and meaningful lessons to students utilizing the school's current curriculums & learning material and maintaining a positive learning environment.
- Preparing home assignments and test materials, evaluating the tests' results, and creating innovative methods of teaching as per the students' varying backgrounds, learning style, and grasping power.
- Providing supporting learning material and reference books to the students, utilizing available resources in school curriculum to monitor, access, and evaluate students' learning abilities.
- Optimizing the use of Internet and other interactive technology for strengthening and supporting instructional programs.

Administrative:
- Collaborating with specialist education teachers for creating innovative methods of learning as per the students' abilities and requirements, and identifying the root of behavioral learning problems in students.
- Collaborating with the Middle School Team to establishing and maintaining a healthy relationship with students, parents, and other working staff members, managing the students' behavior in the classroom and the school premises, and implementing appropriate behavior management program
- Communicating with care, respect, proactivity and professionalism to students, parents, colleagues, and all school personnel. Communicating, both verbally and in writing, in a manner that builds and enhances powerful relationships with students, their families, and members of the school community.
- Maintaining the instructional process and evaluating system of the students as per the state law adopted by the school
- Maintaining the students' progress reports, identifying areas of weakness in the student for their overall improvement in studying habits, behavioral issues, and organizational skills
- Filing and maintaining all forms of physical and computerized documents, records, and reports of the students for general and academic records
- Working in accordance with the latest classroom teaching policies implemented by the state and national legislation, and school regulation
- Actively participating in all important departmental and parents' meetings as well as other school related activities

Apart from these regular duties, an English language arts teacher also offers services in school management like monitoring and supervising the classroom, cafeteria, school hallways and grounds per School’s assignments, interacting with parents and offering external support for the benefit of students with behavioral learning issues, etc.

Working Conditions:

- Works primarily indoor, may on occasion work outdoors supervising students in variable weather conditions, including inclement weather.
- Often needs to stand/walk/navigate in the classroom for long periods of time.
- May occasionally be exposed to noise levels that are distracting, and to speak and hear in often loud environments.
- The work environment may include exposure to unpleasant interior temperatures, dirt, and communicable diseases.
- Need to transport classroom instructional materials, books, binders, paperwork. For heavier lifting, assistance is available.
