Orchestra Teacher - Districtwide - Starting the 2024-2025 School Year

SALARY: $49,638.36-$92,138.12 DOE + 6% of Base stipend for KU and 1% of Base stipend for Elementary.

Hiring Bonus: All new hire teachers that are properly licensed and endorsed (meaning- not on an emergency license, restricted license, or with a conditional assignment endorsement) will receive the signing bonus. For staff that are not properly licensed or endorsed, they shall receive the bonus once properly licensed/endorsed (within three years of hire) and will be paid as defined below as much as possible. This bonus will not be extended to current District teachers or former District teachers (including retirees) who left the district in the last five years. The signing bonus will be paid in three payments: Year one (1): $2,500; Year two (2): $1,500; and Year three (3) $1,000.

Insurance: Generous Health, dental, and vision contribution from the district, currently up to $2,130 (based upon family coverage), TBD for 2024-2025.

PERS Retirement: The district assumes and pays the 6% average employee contribution to the Oregon PERS system.

SCHEDULE: 190 Days + 3 days new teacher inservice

FUNCTION:

To lead students toward the fulfillment of their potential in string instruments performance and orchestral concepts. Instructional settings include large group, small ensemble and individual formats.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Meets and instructs assigned classes in the elementary, middle and high school orchestra. Travels to multiple sites within the geographic area of the district.

Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.

Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of an immediate superior.

Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior based on mutual respect.

Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.

Strives to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.

Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.

Evaluates student progress on a regular basis.

Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.

Assists in the upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and Board Policy.

Makes provision for being available to students and parents outside the instructional day;

Attends and participates in faculty meetings.

Cooperates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.

Assists in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.

Assumes responsibility for the co-curricular activities of the orchestra program, such as performances, field trips, music festivals and associated fundraising events.

Accepts a share of responsibility for co-curricular activities.

Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents

Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others.

Provides for own professional growth.

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Valid Teaching Certificate with music endorsement and high school authorization. The desired candidate will also be a string instrument specialist/performer on at least one bowed string instrument. Prior experience conducting large instrumental ensembles is preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Hold or qualify for an Oregon teaching license through Teacher Standards and Practices Commission with the proper endorsement/authorization.
