JOB SUMMARY

St. Helens School District is seeking an experienced and innovative Instructional Coach to join our team. The Instructional Coach will play a crucial role in supporting teacher growth and development, enhancing instructional practices, and improving student learning outcomes by supporting teachers in implementing a pilot project of co-teaching for multilingual learners. This leadership position requires a deep understanding of effective teaching strategies for multilingual learners, language development and levels of proficiency, strong interpersonal skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.

Professional Development: Provide individualized coaching and mentoring to teachers to support implementation of a co-teaching model for multilingual learners, including program design, sheltered instructional strategies, language development and scaffolds. Collaborate with educators to set goals, develop action plans, and implement research-based teaching strategies aligned with district and state standards. Support the instructional development of all teachers in understanding the SHSD curriculum and varied assessments, the 5 Dimensions for Teaching and Learning and data analysis.

Data Analysis: Administer a variety of language proficiency assessments to determine student eligibility, as well as analyze student assessment data, classroom observations, and other relevant metrics to identify instructional strengths and areas for improvement. Use data to inform instructional decision-making, monitor progress, and adjust coaching strategies as needed.

Model Lessons and Demonstrations: Conduct model lessons and demonstrations to showcase effective sheltered instructional strategies, instructional techniques, language scaffolds, differentiation for language proficiency levels and classroom management practices. Provide real-time feedback and support to teachers during and after the demonstration.

Curriculum Alignment: Assist teachers in aligning curriculum, instruction, and assessment to ensure coherence and alignment with academic standards and instructional goals. Supporting teacher collaboration in planning instruction to be co-taught, aligning ELP standards and grade level ELA standards, and building in appropriate instructional supports to scaffold language development. Collaborate with curriculum coordinators and content specialists to develop and implement high-quality instructional materials and resources.

Co-Teaching: Collaborate with classroom teachers to design and provide instruction in a research-based co-teaching model. Plan, deliver, monitor, collect data, review and adjust instruction in collaboration with classroom teacher.
Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to use research-based principles of effective instruction for multilingual learners. Organize instruction by using learning objectives with clearly defined student outcomes. Employ teaching strategies congruent with planned student outcomes. Select teaching strategies emphasizing student involvement, and designed to incorporate the 5 language domains. Monitor student learning and pace instruction accordingly. Provide instruction based on ELP and grade-level ELA standards.

Professional Learning Teams (PLTs): Facilitate and participate in PLTs to promote collaboration, reflection, and shared learning among teachers. Support PLC discussions on sheltered instructional strategies, language development process, student data analysis, and best practices for improving student achievement.

Technology Integration: Support teachers in integrating technology tools and resources into instruction to enhance student engagement, differentiate instruction, and promote 21st-century skills. Provide training and support on educational technology platforms and applications.

Differentiated Instruction: Assist teachers in implementing differentiated instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of multilingual learners. Provide resources, strategies, and support for modifying instruction and assessment to address individual student needs.

Professional Growth: Stay current on research, trends, and best practices in multilingual education through professional reading, participation in conferences, and networking with colleagues. Collaborate with other district Instructional Coaches and leaders to work to integrate best practices for multilingual learners with other district initiatives, such as MTSS, AVID and Conscious Discipline. Continuously reflect on and refine coaching practices to improve effectiveness and impact.

QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree in education or a related field
Hold an appropriate license from Teacher Standards and Practices Commission in the State of Oregon
Minimum of 3-5 years of successful teaching experience in K-12 settings
Previous experience as an instructional coach, mentor teacher, or professional development facilitator preferred
Previous experience teaching/supporting multilingual learners
ESOL endorsement preferred
Strong knowledge of curriculum development, assessment practices, and educational technology integration
Strong knowledge of language development, sheltered instruction and scaffolding language to support students in reaching English language proficiency
Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to analyze data, set goals, and monitor progress towards improvement
Strong understanding of SIOP, Co-Teaching for multilingual learners, Conscious Discipline, RTI and AVID.
Commitment to equity, diversity, and culturally responsive teaching practices
