We are seeking a full-time, academic year Overnight Dormitory Counselor (DC1) for the Oregon School for the Deaf. Interested candidates are encouraged to submit their application materials without delay!
Shift: Overnight Shift - eligible for shift differential of $1.50/hour for hours worked from 6pm-6am and anytime worked on the weekend.
Bilingual Requirement: This position requires a minimum of ASLPI level 3 or SLPI:ASL Intermediate. The successful candidate will receive a 5% bilingual differential pay upon successfully passing language assessment.

Our Oregon School for the Deaf (OSD), located in Salem, Oregon, provides direct 24-hour educational and residential services to approximately 130 students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, kindergarten through age 21. OSD also acts as a resource to the entire state, providing special activities, consultation, and educational services to students, professionals, families, and the public.

What You Will Do:
Our Residential Program keeps the Oregon School for the Deaf's education mission alive. It offers different learning chances to help students with their studies and personal growth. We know that learning isn't just about books; it also happens outside the classroom. We promise to support this kind of learning through our residential experiences.
Our dorm counselors are dedicated to making sure students have a safe, cozy, and well-kept living area in an environment that helps them learn.
A typical day on the job might involve:
Watching over residential students, teaching them life skills, guiding them with positive behavior instruction, organizing fun activities, and maintaining a clean, safe, and appealing living environment.
Keeping track of attendance and making sure you always know where each student is during the nighttime.
Cleaning specific areas as assigned by the Dean of Student Life when you're not doing bed checks or assisting students with special needs.
Making sure all records are current, precise, and thorough.

What We Are Looking For:
Minimum Qualifications:
Dormitory Counselor 1
High School diploma or GED; AND Six (6) months experience working with children or adults in a group home, foster care setting, or skilled care center.
School for the Deaf: Requires American Sign Language at the PI level 2 within six (6) months of hire.
Some positions may require the ability to obtain certification in basic first aid and pass the agency pupil-transportation vehicle, class-10 examination.
Special Requirements:
ASLPI Level 3 or SLPI:ASL Intermediate or better upon hire
You must provide OSD with certification that you are ASLPI or SLPI:ASL certified within 12 weeks of start date.
Desired Attributes:
Experience (paid or unpaid) working with children ages 5-18 in a school setting, preferable in small groups.
Basic behavior intervention strategies experience.
Practical computer skills.
Housekeeping or custodial experience.
