Elementary Educational Assistant - Special Needs

JOB TITLE: Educational Assistant – Special Needs, 33.75 hours per week (6.75 hours per day, average)
REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Classroom Teacher

JOB SUMMARY: To assist classroom teachers with individual and/or small group learning in special and general education classrooms and provide student supervision as needed. Staff will be asked to support students with a variety of needs, which could include academic, social, functional and behavioral supports. A primary focus is the establishment of a positive learning environment that promotes a high level of achievement and inclusion for all students. Full job description available upon request.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Criminal history clearance (background check and HB 2062).
3. Ability to meet Highly Qualified Paraprofessional standards (2 years of college, Associates degree or pass WorkKeys skills test).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Basic computer/technology skills.
2. Spanish Language skills.

1. Self-starter who is able to take minimal guidance, as well as, work as a team member.
2. Organized and neat in working with students with disabilities.
3. Creative and versatile in terms of working with students with disabilities.
4. Ability to maintain patience in stressful situations.
5. Ability to be physically active.
6. Ability to treat information confidentially.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Works a school year calendar, approximately 181 days at FTE 0.8438. Based on current OSEA salary schedule and negotiated agreement, salary (code 8 – starting $16.77/hr. – $19.37/hr.) with excellent benefits including Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance and Oregon state retirement.
