JOB SUMMARY
The Behavior Support TOSA supports the staff and school in achieving a positive school climate and sustaining high levels of student achievement at the school. The TOSA cultivates and promotes a safe, learning-centered school environment. This is accomplished by aligning positive student and teacher behaviors using a Multi-Tiered System of Support. The TOSA supports classroom teachers in student behavior management through universal Tier I interventions, assisting classroom teachers through the Tier II Behavior process. The result is a culture of high expectations for all students, supporting a district-level system that prioritizes all students’ access to high quality academic and social emotional instruction.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Conducts oneself in the best interest of students, in accordance with the highest traditions of public education and in support of the District’s mission.
Abides by the Standards for Competent and Ethical Performance of Oregon Educators as articulated by the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission under OAR 584 Division 20.
Fosters a culture of learning, cultural responsiveness, and high expectations for every student and every adult.
Collaboratively assists and trains staff to deliver behavioral and social/emotional supports and curriculum to support students’ access to the academic curriculum.
Assists in the training of staff to implement behavior modification techniques and serves as a resource to teachers on best practices in classroom management and student interventions.
Supports and trains staff in defining and measuring behavior, understanding principles of reinforcement, teaching new behavior, implementing universal Tier 1 strategies for improving positive behavior and identifying antecedents.
Works cooperatively with building administrators, school counselor and the school team to promote positive student behavior by supporting teachers in their implementation of positive behaviors supports in their classrooms.
Supports teachers in gathering and analyzing information to develop individualized behavior support plans and interventions with the school team.
Reviews, analyzes and uses behavioral referral and school-wide data reports on a regular basis.
Collaborates with school teams to identify students in need of Tiers 2 behavioral interventions, assisting in the planning of those interventions and providing support for teachers in implementing interventions.
Promotes positive relationships with outside services and student/home environment when developing programs/plans.
Facilitates and coaches teams through the development and implementation of Functional Behavior Plans/Behavior Support Plans for identified students. Helps classroom teachers design plans that address classroom organization, effective instruction, social emotional learning, skills’ instruction and ethical issues.
Coordinates with District staff to develop systems and procedures for working with and assisting students with challenging behaviors to include: Collaborative Problem Solving, ACE’s and Applied Behavior Analysis techniques.
Implements culturally competent practices and culturally responsive schoolwide and classroom management strategies to provide equity and access for all students.
Plans and delivers support and professional development that incorporates input and feedback to maximize effectiveness.
Collects and analyzes data from multiple sources to determine impact and effectiveness.
Maintains effective working relationships with other members of the Department as well as other school personnel and community members, including those from diverse cultures or backgrounds or those who speak limited or no English.
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of all district policies and procedures.
Maintains consistent, daily and punctual attendance.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Non-essential duties of this position include the following tasks. Employees in this position perform some or all of these tasks. Other duties may be assigned at any time.
Operates various office equipment including audio visual equipment/devices, telephones and photocopy machines.
Orders supplies.
Moves classroom furniture and organizes classroom to enhance student learning.
Attends in-service trainings, staff meetings and other meetings as assigned. Attends professional growth activities related to job responsibilities.
Provides staff development activities for staff during in-service meetings.
Serves on building and district committees and councils as assigned.
Communicates information about district, school and/or departmental policies and procedures
to students, staff, parents and patrons.
Supervises students on school grounds, on field trips and at various school functions.
Reports issues to the principal and the appropriate authorities including safety, sanitary and fire hazards, vandalism, thefts and errant wildlife.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Consistently follows all applicable federal and state laws and all district policies, rules and supervisor directions.
Observes ergonomics of sedentary office work including placement of computers and monitors,
and sitting alignment.
Observes proper lifting techniques and other strategies to avoid accidents and personal injury
while performing job duties.
Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience: A Bachelor’s degree is required, a Master’s degree in Special Education is preferred. A valid Oregon teacher license with necessary endorsements is required. Three (3) years of successful behavior management experience with special needs students, is preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of child and adolescent growth and development is required. Must currently hold a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), or be willing and able to obtain a BCBA within three (3) years of hire date.

Focuses on solving conflict, maintaining confidentiality, listening to others, keeping emotions under control, remaining open to others’ ideas and contributing to building a positive team spirit. Demonstrates the ability to remain calm and professional in an environment with frequent interruptions. Interacts with staff and students appropriately.
Language Skills: Ability to communicate in English fluently both verbally and in writing, including proficiency in spelling and grammar. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, staff, regulatory agencies, vendors and members of the community. Ability to read and interpret documents including governmental regulations, safety rules and operating and maintenance instructions/ instruction manuals. Ability to prepare routine reports and correspondence with high degrees of accuracy and professionalism.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to calculate rates, ratios, percentages and proportions. Ability to read and interpret various charts, bar graphs and similar visual data depictions.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in oral, schedule or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving more than one variable.
Computer Skills: Ability to effectively use office computers and internet access for email, research, word processing, database manipulation, visual presentations and general web-based applications.
Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to exercise good judgment and work effectively in a dynamic environment.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: A valid Oregon Driver’s License is required. Must have or able to obtain various certificates, licenses and/or registrations as required by federal, state or local law(s) and/or determined by the district.

The work environment is a standard classroom setting. The noise level of the work environment is usually low to moderate, but occasionally high depending upon the location, the student population and current activities. The employee occasionally will be required to supervise students during their arrival/departure and recess. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions and outdoor weather conditions, including seasonal heat and cold. The employee may occasionally be exposed to contagious diseases, bodily fluids, blood-borne pathogens and various cleaning agents and fumes.
