Media Manager for Sisters Elementary and Middle Schools

Position Summary: Under minimal supervision, the Media Manager performs a wide variety of duties to provide a well-organized, smoothly functioning library/media center environment in which teachers and students can take full advantage of available resources. The team member assists teachers and students in the effective use of the library/media center as a learning resource while also maintaining all audiovisual and related equipment in such a condition that maximum educational use may be made of it at all times. This position requires use of independent judgement on well-defined rules and regulations. Non-routine phases of work are referred to an immediate supervisor for collaboration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
• Establishes a plan for the circulation and retrieval of materials and equipment which includes a process for preparation prior to circulation, as well as proper care and storage of materials, and complete accounting and record-keeping systems for collection inventory.
• Provides assistance to the teaching staff in the selection and acquisition of media materials.
• Types, files, and processes library/media resources using the computerized library system.
• Maintains the media center’s computerized systems for cataloging and circulation of materials, providing monthly and yearly circulation statistics as well as year-end inventory reports to the building principal and school administration.
• Supervises students in the media center during recess, lunch periods, and before/after school, and during class rotations based on the needs of the school.
• Follows district and school policies and guidelines for maintaining appropriate behavior among students.
• Prepares orders for services, equipment, and new acquisitions to the media collection.
• Provides information access instruction to staff and students.
• Maintains appropriate records for media center equipment, services and materials expenditures.
• Works cooperatively with the teaching staff in providing resource materials and services consistent with current instructional programs.
• Maintains a collaborative relationship between students and staff to ensure maximal use of the library media center and its resources.
• Maintains an attractive and inviting atmosphere in the library media facility.
• Maintains communication and provides a link with information resource centers located outside of the school facility.
• Assists with implementation of reading motivation activities and programs.
• Implements library media center practices and procedures as directed by the school administration.
• Performs instructional assistance, technology support, and clerical tasks related to media center materials, the school technology inventory, and the use of technology by staff and students.
• Plans, trains, and supervises purposeful assignments for student assistants and volunteers, and for other educational assistants.
• Attends meetings, work sessions and in-service opportunities as required by the District.
• Participates in planning the District’s coordinated media program.
• Assist with collection of fees and billing.
• Maintain current records, track overdue and lost books, create accounts for patrons and manage student library cards.
• Professionally represent the school and the District in interactions with parents, community, staff, and students and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
• Fulfills performance standards identified in the evaluation process as required by the position.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position may supervise student aide, library volunteers and groups of students. All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. • Education and/or Experience: Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school or one to two years' related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior successful experience working in a school setting or library setting strongly
preferred. Oregon Educational Media Association Certificate (OEMA) preferred.
• Interpersonal Skills: Works well with others from diverse backgrounds. Focuses on solving conflict; maintaining confidentiality; listening to others without interrupting; keeping emotions under control; remaining open to others’ ideas and contributing to building a positive team spirit.
• Language Skills: Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in English. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, staff, or members of the community. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and
procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before students, staff and parents.
• Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
• Computer Skills: General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use database software, accounting software, internet software, e-mail, spreadsheets and word processing software. Ability to provide basic computer, A/V equipment and hardware troubleshooting. Ability to proficiently use the following
programs strongly preferred: eSIS, Follett, PowerPoint/Presentation, MS Excel, Publisher, and MS Word, and Google Workspace. Ability to type accurately and proficiently.
• Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to appropriately communicate with students, teachers, parents, members of the community and others including vendors and other agencies. Ability to exercise good judgment and work in an environment with frequent interruptions.
• Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: Certificates as determined by the District. Must have or be able to obtain a valid CPR/First Aid card.

Work Environment: The employee works with classified and certified staff in a support role and must be able to communicate effectively, set priorities, organize work, and think logically to conduct problem-solving activities. The employee also works with groups of students and on a one-to-one basis. Students include those who may be physically and mentally handicapped, learning disabled, emotionally disturbed and culturally different. Supervision and instructional responsibilities require the employee to be able to stand for up to 45 consecutive minutes and to sit for prolonged periods. The employee will also need to work with electrical devices, manage network and equipment connections that may require stooping or crawling under desks/tables, or standing on ladders.

Significant physical abilities include reaching, handling, stooping, fingering, talking, hearing conversations and near visual acuity/visual accommodation. The employee must be able to lift or maneuver up to 40 pounds. The employee is frequently required to walk, sit, use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.

Start Date: May 9, 2022

Schedule: 32.50 hours per week. Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 3:00pm

Salary: $15.94 - $24.85 per hour, based upon education and experience per CBA. Excellent benefits package and Employer-paid PERS.
