Ninety-One K-8 School is hiring a 4 hour per day, 182 days per year Special Education Intructional Assistant position to support our SOAR behavior program.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION:
The Special Education Instructional Assistant (Sped IA) has duties that are integrated with both the academic and behavior aspects of the Special Education Program. The Sped IA helps to implement and support the academic and behavior environment in the Special Education Program. The Sped IA is expected to work within a team concept and in the special education program serving students by implementing education and behavior management strategies. The following are examples of duties, responsibilities and accountabilities, which are neither all-inclusive nor restrictive.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Assists the special education team by implementing education and behavior management strategies and plans for each student.
2. Helps to maintain the daily schedule for each student and provides supervision of students at all times.
3. Provides instructional assistance and tutoring to students as assigned.
4. Assists licensed staff in implementing programs and/or activities to promote positive student academics and behaviors.
5. Participates in the classroom management program for students and intervenes as necessary to maintain a constructive and positive classroom environment.
6. Assists students as required while maintaining a professional demeanor and modeling appropriate interpersonal behaviors and attitudes.
7. Collects and charts data as assigned by classroom teacher.
8. Use safety interventions as the situation indicates, which includes de-escalation for students as appropriate. This includes de-escalating provocative and destructive behaviors and enforcing group/classroom rules according to the behavioral interventions of the student.
9. Assist in health-related procedures as necessary, i.e., medication, hygiene, toileting.
10. May assist students during recess, lunch, PE, music, transitions to various activities, to and from transportation when arriving and leaving school.
11. Helps maintain orderliness in the classroom and other student areas.
12. Demonstrates an understanding of educational and behavioral disorders. Demonstrates an understanding of how to work with the needs of children based on evidence-based practices, or be willing to learn.
13. Performs other duties as requested by the administrator or special education team.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
72 college level credits or successful completion of a para-professional highly qualified certification or willingness to complete within 30 days of hire.
Have or obtain a First Aid and CPR Card.
Knowledge and Abilities:
1. Knowledge and training and/or experience in working with students with developmental disabilities.
2. Ability to make some independent judgments with prescribed policies and procedures and perform essential functions with a minimum amount of supervision.
3. Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships and work in partnership with supervisors, other staff, students, and general public.
4. Ability to use de-escalation techniques (training is provided).
5. Knowledge of assistive technology or willingness to learn.
6. Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bilingual in Spanish

In addition to salary and part time benefits, the district pays the employee's 6% PERS contribution.
