The Social Emotional counselors mission is to help students overcome problems that impede them in their daily life and learning. The counselor will develop relationships, guide, assess, listen and lend support to students who will need services beyond the scope of the regular classroom.
This person is under the general supervision of the site principal and is responsible for student support included but not limited to the following:
• Individual Planning awareness of self-concept, learning style, interpersonal skills, decision making, and personal responsibility.
• Responsive Services including consultation with parents and school staff, referral to appropriate school or community based programs, and facilitation of individual or peer-focused conflict resolution.
• Assist students and staff in understanding and seeking solutions to social, emotional, or academic problems and issues; to serve as a resource pertaining to student behavior management strategies, and welfare and attendance problems and concerns; and to do other related functions as required.
• Meets, confers, and consults with parents, school personnel, and members of various youth serving agencies in developing alternative solutions to student educational, social, and emotional problems and concerns.
• Student Advocacy ensuring each student receives equitable access and opportunities to participate and be successful in school programs utilizing appropriate support services.
• Provides staff training focusing on prevention/intervention and behavioral topics.
