The OALA Winter Conference is more than a conference with great speakers, it's a vehicle to develop, support and mentor the next generation of Oregon educators in a more diverse and challenging learning environment. 

Held annually, the OALA Winter Conference offers intensive exploration of the field of innovative instructional and learning strategies for Latino students, best practices for parent involvement, closing of the achievement gap for English language learners, and profession development training for aspiring administrators. Participants can expect a hand-on curriculum which includes presentations by nationally-recognized authors and educational officials.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Luis F. Cruz, Educational Consultant, New Frontier 21
Dr. Cruz is the former proud Principal of Baldwin Park High School, a school located in the Baldwin Park Unified School District approximately 20 miles east of Los Angeles.  Several years ago, Dr. Cruz joined Dr. Anthony Muhammad’s leadership and consulting company, New Frontier 21, as an educational consultant and has since been traveling around the country showcasing the work that is collectively transforming Baldwin Park High School into an organization closing the achievement gap and “saving student lives”.  As a result, Dr. Cruz has also gained notoriety as a passionate and motivating public speaker, trainer and educational consultant in the United States.  His combination of enthusiasm, humor, practical application and sincere zest for student achievement has catapulted Dr. Cruz to become one of the most sought after “rising stars” in the profession.
