As a member of the ODE Executive Team, and leader of the Department of Education Equity team, the Assistant Superintendent of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion leads the development and implementation of proactive equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives within the agency and across the 197 Oregon school districts. The primary purpose of this position is to lead the development of a vision and effective strategies grounded in the values of a diverse and inclusive educational environment and to advise and provide resource information to the Deputy Superintendent, Chief of Staff and fellow Executive Team members on matters of equity and inclusion. This position works within the parameters of Oregon state legislation, state policies and practices, which will lead efforts to drive a culture of equity, diversity and inclusion which may include the design of training initiatives on cultural responsiveness and sustainability, gender differences, disability, sexual harassment, and other related topics to increase awareness and support of equity and inclusion values, recommendations to agency leaders and the State Board of Education.
