Cultivating the Courage to Connect

Cultivating the Courage to Connect

The presentation will be informed by research in special education, counseling psychology, and implementation science.  Talking points:

  • Critical features of quality relationships and working alliance
  • The two-headed dragon: Toxic positivity and occupational cynicism
    • Predictors of occupational burnout (and how that impacts students)
  • A menu of considerations to vanquish common disconnectors and create connection links within your special education teams under three themes:
    • Communication (frequency, transparency, gratitude)
    • Collaboration (acknowledge the expertise outside of degrees)
    • Courage (being a change agent is not easy).
